Myself, Chuffy, Jen, Rabid and Mr White all descended upon the Brittania hotel in Stockport for a weekend of jokes, laughs, games and much dice rolling.

Here is a blow by blow account of the battles we got up to.

Friday

We started the weekend with the traditional game of zombies with me, Mr White and Rabid kicking off. The game lasted a record amount of time and in an unprecedented move I won not only by making it to the helipad but by also killing the 25 winning zombies too.

Then we chilled for a while and whilst I went on to a Role Playing session, Mr white, Chuffy and Rabid all had a game of the beutifully constructed game Dreadfleet. This game has a simply stunning gaming surface and the models look amazing.

Unfortunately though the SW gang did not come out victorious. Meanwhile I took part in a long running role playing session with the Stabcon Regular GM Rory. I got to play my Elven Mage/Ranger Eldritch against the evil vampire tangerines!!!.

Saturday

Saturday we started the day with a game of Galaxy Trucker. Me, Chuffy, Jen, Simon, our good friend Ian and a regular at the convention called Jim went head to head in trying to make it as the roughest toughest trucker in the universe.

And would you believe it but I won again!!!!… this has so far been my most successful Stabcon, especially in light of the fact that Rabid has so far hammered almost every game of Galaxy trucker and will probably continue to do so after this brief respite.

Then we played a massive game of Battlestar Galactica, where five of us ventured into the story of the desperate race for survival whilst one of us secretly played a cylon agent. Despite the human survivors coming very close to winning in the end Ian brought us down even though we had figured he was the agent and left us with 0 population a mere few rounds from us winning.

Then we went on to playing Ian’s game of Gears of War and me, Ian, Chuffy and Rabid again almost made it to the final round before the squad was wiped out, leaving us feeling gutted again.

We took a brake for food and then moved on to a big game of Talisman using the new dragon king add on pack. The game was a new learning and curve and whilst it never finished we all felt it was a new and refreshing edge to the game that we enjoyed. In the end after the count up Chuffy came out the winner.

Sunday

With us feeling a little drained and down we began the final day of the convention with our game of Sabotage set in the futuristic world of 3056. Mr White playing his character of the same name worked with Rabid and Chuffy found themselves assaulting the dastardly base of the evil fanatical cult of the Kir-Van-Nu.

Once we had wrapped up the RPG we moved on to a game of Chaos Gods of the Old World and Rabid ended the convention with a last minute win for old father nurgle.

I would like to thank Jen, Chuffy, Rabbid, Mr White and Ian for being good friends and making another Stabcon a great event for me. See you in summer guys.

After some real hard work and some serious thinking, may I present the new gaming system called Sabotage 4.0. As mentioned in a previous post we have been playing this home grown gaming system for the last 10 years and it has grown and developed as we have played.

Sabotage 4 Character Sheet

We in the guild are considering setting up a In-Guild League to see who can accumulate the most amount of space credits by a certain time. If you want to be involved guild members, post on the forum here.

We just need to know your name, the name of your Space Trucking Corporation and we’ll keep you updated on the games. The League will run from the first game until the January STABCON and we’ll announce the winner on the SW website.

In the meantime, having lost stupidly on Thursday night and having a bit of a strop in doing so, I decided to build a cool Galaxy Trucker Ship. Anybody wanna do a spot check???

STABCON is a nice friendly relaxed gaming convention which me, Rabid Bunny and Mr White have been visiting for the last two years. It supports both RPG’s (free form and Structured), Board gaming and even a little War Gaming. There is also a gaming supplier from FANBOY 3 who turn up and sell to all the gamers during the weekend.

So what did we get up to???!!!!

Friday

Friday started with us getting booked in and registered. Once sorted it felt good to see the old crowd once again and we chilled out with a few beers before starting our first game in the main room. Our first game was ZOMBIES and we included the Mall add on pack in our game.

Starting out in the Zombies game

Zombies is a Tile based game where players place tiles down as they move their “survivor” figures around and growing city. The idea is to either kill 25 Zombies or when the Heli-Pad tile is drawn out get to it before the other players.

Here we are starting the game and Rabid Bunny is getting into the spirit of the game with a less than Ninja Zombie attack on Mr White…..

Then it’s right back into the serious play, as you can see the city is growing tile by tile. In the background you can see the main hall which holds the vast majority of the gamers.

Span about 40 mins and the city has grown into a sprawling zombie infested maze.

This is the game just as it was won by Rabid Bunny who managed to both reach the heli-pad and the kill 25 zombies at the same time.

Victory !!!!!!

We then spent the rest of the night playing a new card game Rabid bought called Pooh, which basically involved us playing monkeys flinging dung at each other. I got absolutely trounced on this game and was the first one to get sent out of the game. Excuse my ignorance but it escapes who won this first game.

It was also good too see our friends Steve, Lesley, Alan and Ian (hello guys if your reading)

Saturday

On Saturday I managed to get hold of a game I have been after for a while called GALAXY TRUCKERS. The objective of this game is to play 3 consistent rounds of space adventures using a ship you build.

Each player gts a board with a number of spaces and tries to fill those spaces with a series of cardboard counters which all represent different areas of their vessel and only connect together in a certain way.

You then play a series of random encounters which tries to rid your ship of it’s defenses, components and crew. The winner is the player who has generated the most cash at the end of the 3 rounds.

The game proved very popular and it was very entertaining to see Mr White come limping into the space dock at the end of the game having lost everything but one tile of his ship and one crew.

We then decided to do some Role Playing and both Ding and Chuffy came to the convention to join in the session. I run a futuristic campaign which has been running at the convention for a while.

The game is set in the aftermath of a Nuclear Winter with high technological advances and now much of the earths population surviving either out in the Rad Wastelands or held up in fortress like cyberpunk like mega cities.

The game started out as a play on Mega Corps and their dealings with very special and highly skilled criminals (the players), however the last few sessions has twisted the game to concentrate on the players as they develop and take on the gradually growing threat that is a strange Fanatical organisation called the Keer-Varn- Nu.

After a few hours of this we then went on to start our big game of Talisman, with me, Rabid, Mr White, Chuffy and our Friend Ian joining in. The game had some great moments with both Mr White losing his first characters life to the randomness of the game and then Rabid’s character getting swiftly removed from the game by the icy grip of the Death NPC.  In the end it was 2:00 in the morning and we were all looking tired so we decided to tot up our scores and who ever was on top would be declared the winner.

Ian was the victor and that saw us all off to bed….well done m8.

Sunday

Sunday started with a few more games of Galaxy Truckers and then Chuffy bought a new game called CHAOS GODS OF THE OLD WORLD. This was a game I had played once before and thought it was right down his street as he like the rest of the guild likes the whole War Hammer Genre. You play one of the four Chaos Gods as you try to beat your brothers in becoming the top chaos god in the realm.

In the end Simon was victorious and the power Tzeentch spread across the land. We then played some more of the POOH monkey dung slinging game and I WON !!!! which was a nice way to round down the end of the weekend.

All in all the weekend was great and I was happy to be playing games I enjoyed with good friends. Here’s to Winter 2012 and the next STABCON.

Shadowrun character spreadsheet

Having spent a small fortune in the past on Shadowrun 3rd edition, I was more than angry to find a Fourth edition suddenly appear. Maybe it’s because I am getting old, or maybe it’s because I know what I like and 3rd edition did the job as far as I was concerned.

I was further agravated when I discovered the new ideas and input that was being incorporated in the new edition was indeed exciting and innovative. Something that the shadowrun system was badly in need of. So instead of conforming and purchasing another 15 books, I started writing my own rules to slot in with the 3rd edition system and it is these that I attach for you to use as you see fit.

They begin with the Shadowrun 3rd Edition Alternative Matrix rule system. I found that the 3rd editions matrix rules were very complicated and did not fit in correctly with both the initiative rules system and the flow of the game. It was almost as if the Decker did not fit in with the rest of the game. Quite often I found that the GM was forced to run two games, a virtual game with the decker being looked after in his virtual world and then a seperate game that involved the rest of the runners.

The matrix system was also very complicated and quite heavy on rules and knowledge of the gaming system. In response I have written a very simplistic approach to the rule system, which fits in more with the initiative round. So I was bored (and unable to pay forge worlds prices) so I set about making my own warhound.

What you see here is my first prototype, this was made from 2 cerial boxes and some random GW boxes.  It is held together with electrical tape.

I will be adding the weapon arms this coming weekend. After this is done, I will go on to make another a lot neater, and out of some better materials.
